I feel as though every trainer has a horse that is THE Horse. The horse that makes them want to be, or in some instances have to be, a Trainer. For me that horse was a scrawny, big eyed, two year old Arabian stud colt. I’d like to tell you a little more about this horse that set me firmly onto the path of professional horse training. This little arab was not much in anyone else’s eyes, he was a stud colt, about 100 lbs. underweight and at the livestock auction before it had a social media presence. He wasn’t a flashy color, gangly and skinny… but to me he was the sweetest thing I had ever seen. I was so nervous at the auction that day as he was tag 64 and I knew that it would be a long and anxious wait to see if I could get him. In those days of my first year of college I wasn’t exactly rolling in the dough, so I had a very low budget for this horse, but I just knew he was supposed to be mine. In fact, I felt that the stars had aligned for us not only to meet but to have my best girlfriend already have her horse trailer conveniently at the action! I sat there anxiously waiting for him to be up. Finally they brought in my beautiful boy and he was so scared and little! The auctioneer started the bidding at $200 and my heart fell as I was sure there was no way I could afford him if they were already starting that high! I sat there almost in tears watching as the auctioneer waited for anyone to bid. Then to my surprise no one bid on my little Arab! And then the bid got lower and lower and as he called  out “$50” I shouted “here!” and I think I startled the auctioneer in that otherwise silent room. He looked around and said “Once, twice SOLD! To the little lady over there!” I was literally bawling as I jumped up and ran out of the ring to the back to go see my new boy, calling my mom and screaming in her ear! I will never forget the day I bought my “bargain” Pony. He has been the greatest equine teacher I could have asked for and he has challenged me and rewarded me like no other horse I have worked with. My Percy is my poster child and the inspiration behind why I love doing what I do. I love working with young unstarted horses, auction horses and rescues, and if it hadn’t been for that one little Arabian I don’t know if my path would have led me to the truly rewarding work I do. He will forever be the horse that started it all for me!

I used my start with Percy to help lift and motivate myself into being the best trainer/rider I could be for him. I trained at Linn Benton Community College that fall in their young horse program and finished at the top of my class. I then went on to work professionally starting young horses. I have many people in my corner who I bounce ideas off of and learn from at every step of the way. In the last 8 years my training style has continued to grow and change as well as I. Every horse is a new and unique challenge that reminds me that there is more than one way to get the correct answer, and that sometimes the path to the correct answer is more important than the answer itself.

My training consists of a multitude of styles. I have used techniques from Pat Parelli , Clinton Anderson and Buck Brannaman because I really want the horse to guide ME in the best way to help them learn. I do lean heavily on more classical concepts; working with the horse’s own nature to help them progress and learn. Lately I have added a strong liberty aspect to my training to really build the trust and bond with the horse to help them build their confidence in me as their trainer and you as their rider. Each horse is different and it is my job to help build a plan to best help you and your horse succeed in whichever discipline you choose. If you choose me as your trainer, you will have a plan customized to your horses skill set you riding ability and your hopes and goals for you and your horse.

When you book with us you are booking for 30 sessions, not the typical 30 days. What does that 30 days even guarantee you? Will your horse be worked every day for 30 days? Every other day? At Rain Horse Training I want you to know exactly how many times, and how often your horse is worked with. I also offer your horse a pasture setting, living and working next to other horses and farm animals while they are in my care. They will be ridden out in a field, on the trail and in an arena, to give them as much exposure as I can give them.

Our goal at Rain Horse training is to give your horse a well rounded start to their horse career and give them the best possible beginning for their journey with you. If you have any questions about our methods or pricing or anything else please contact us today!

We look forward to talking horse with you!
